Health Care in Hayward

The Hayward area is well-positioned to serve the region’s health care needs. In addition to the multitude of established practices and clinics in the community, residents take advantage of convenient, high-quality health care resources at major hospital campuses.

Celebrating 57 years of service to the Hayward and surrounding communities, St. Rose Hospital stands tall providing quality health care to all. With almost 900 employees and 400 physicians, St. Rose is a nonprofit 217-bed acute care facility that offers comprehensive care. Diagnostic imaging services include the latest in digital technology and diagnostic ultrasound. Services include a 24-hour emergency department that sees 40,000 patients annually, a medical/surgical/telemetry department, an award-winning family birthing center and an outpatient care center. The hospital is a Cardiac STEMI Receiving Center providing emergency lifesaving angioplasties for immediate treatment of heart attacks. In 2017, St. Rose opened a state-of- the-art in-patient pharmacy.

Kaiser Permanente is one of the nation’s leading health care providers and nonprofit health plans. They provide a full spectrum of health care services to southern Alameda County residents through facilities in Hayward, Fremont, San Leandro and Union City. Kaiser has served Hayward for more than 50 years and continues its mission at the Sleepy Hollow Medical Offices to provide high-quality affordable health care services and to improve the health of members and the communities it serves.

Eden Medical Center’s state-of-the-art facility in Castro Valley brings together patient-centered care, technology and sophisticated design. It has 130 private patient rooms, with an additional 34-bed universal care unit. Eden is home to the Sutter East Bay Neuroscience Institute, Primary Stroke Center and Regional Trauma Center. Services include cancer care, advanced imaging, rehabilitation and emergency care.

Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center provides free and low-cost health primary care and social services to 15,000 patients in Southern Alameda County who would otherwise have nowhere to go to receive care. From its Hayward headquarters and social services site, the center provides services such as family practice, pediatrics, prenatal care, immunizations to infants, nutrition education to new mothers, mental health and outreach services and after-school programs.

The Firehouse Clinic on Huntwood Avenue is a collaboration of the City of Hayward, the Alameda County Health Care Services Agency and Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center. The clinic offers extended hours to accommodate the schedules of working families. Services include primary and preventive care at the fire station.

Hayward Wellness Center at the Southland Mall is part of Alameda Health System’s network of clinics that expand access to primary care and medical specialties. Hayward Wellness also provides services such as optometry and podiatry. Group visits include classes on healthy eating and living, and a demonstration kitchen.

The Life West Chiropractic College Health Center is located on the teaching facility campus in Hayward. Senior interns are directed by licensed chiropractors at the clinic, which provides affordable services to those in need of care.
