Mayor’s Welcome

As Mayor of Addison, I send my warmest greetings to you. Whether you are a new or longtime resident, a member of our growing business community or are visiting Addison for the first time, please accept my words of welcome.

What brings you to Addison? I can tell you that for my wife Mary Ann and me, and our family, it’s the people of our community. A new resident can move to Addison, as we did 45 years ago, raise a family and have your children attend our school systems. Our residents become involved and give back to our community, as I did starting as chairman of the Substance Responsibility Commission in the early 1980s, moving on to the village board as a trustee in 1992 and now serving in my second term as mayor. Our residents may move a second or third time while in Addison, but it’s always home to them!

As I travel within Addison each day, residents will approach me to ask a question, let me know about an issue in their neighborhood or offer a word of support for one of our new initiatives. It’s that interest in Addison that helps me stay connected with our residents. A spirit of community is everywhere throughout Addison, and I invite you to experience the Addison Advantage.

Warmest regards,

Rich Veenstra
Mayor

Welcome to Addison

“Get The Addison Advantage!” It’s not just a slogan that began 20 years ago; it’s our message that Addison is a vibrant and expanding community in DuPage County that preserves our heritage and is a welcoming place to live, work, run a business and raise your family.

“Addison is keeping up with the needs of our residents by providing the very best public services, fostering a sense of citizen engagement and offering a place for everyone,” said Mayor Rich Veenstra, elected to his second term as mayor in 2017 after serving for 21 years as a village trustee. “Addison has everything from starter homes to luxury homes for everyone from first-time home buyers, growing families, empty nesters and seniors looking for a caring community,” Mayor Veenstra said.

Businesses, too, will find Addison a place that’s on the move. Addison is near major highways and just 11 miles from O’Hare International Airport, has more than 300 acres of business park within its borders and is near many established commercial and industrial businesses. Addison is home to the largest industrial park in DuPage County and one of the largest in Illinois, making it a great place to start and expand a business.

Addison is home to a wide range of educational excellence. Leading education services include the innovative Addison Early Learning Center, a growing and diverse student population within its 10 public and parochial elementary schools, the nationally-recognized Addison Trail High School, the dynamic career and technical education programs of Technology Center of DuPage and convenient campuses of DeVry University, Chamberlain College of Nursing and College of DuPage are in Addison.

Here are just a few of Addison’s newer advantages that our community is proud of:

  • Enclave at Mill Creek: 87 single-family ranch-style homes with first floor master bedrooms and optional second floors, located at Army Trail and Mill roads.
  • Clarendale Senior Housing: A 215,000 square-foot, five-story facility located on Lake Street, just east of the I-355 corridor and next to Marcus Theatre and Hampton Inn & Suites. Completion is scheduled for early 2019. The community includes 98 independent, 54 assisted and 38 memory care units as well as full dining, housekeeping, a pub, fitness center, spa, billiards and a bistro.
  • Addison Consolidated Dispatch Center: A state-of-the-art public safety communications facility providing law enforcement and fire protection services for Addison and more than a dozen area communities.
  • Rock ‘N Wheels: Addison’s weekly summer festival of popular music, food and a place to gather with family and friends at Addison’s new Village Green next to village hall.

See what the Addison advantage is all about. Check out our community and you’ll see why Addison is a place that’s on the move!

Addison Fire Protection District

The Addison Fire Protection District is an all-hazards emergency services organization providing fire, medical, rescue and safety educational services to the Village of Addison and the unincorporated areas surrounding the village. The Addison Fire Protection District is housed in three fire stations staffed with full-time, cross-trained firefighter-paramedics.

Emergency services are primarily provided via three paramedic-equipped quint fire vehicles capable of performing the multiple roles of a fire engine, a ladder truck and rescue squad.

Three advanced life support ambulances provide paramedic services and transports to area hospitals: AMITA-Alexian Brothers Medical Center, Edwards-Elmhurst Hospital and AMITA-Adventist Glen Oaks Hospital.

The fire protection district also offers a variety of community services, such as blood pressure checks, CPR and first aid classes, health equipment loan program, public and private fire prevention classes, residential key box program and rural address sign program as well as a robust young adult Explorer program.

The Explorer program involves young men and women who are at least 14 years of age and not yet 21 years old. Exploring is all about helping young adults make a more informed decision about future careers and determine if a particular career is the right one for them.
