The history of Doe’s Eat Place is as rich and flavorful as their porterhouse steaks. Established in Greenville in 1941 by Dominic “Doe” Signa and his wife Mamie, Doe’s was recently recognized by Bon Appetit magazine as having “one of the top steaks in America.”
As the legend goes, back in 1941, Mamie received a partial recipe for hot tamales. She improved the recipe and sold her beef tamales, which customers called “a true taste of the Mississippi Delta.” Those tamales and the sensation they created were the beginning of Doe’s. Although the original family-owned Doe’s Eat Place is in Greenville, several franchises like the one in Ridgeland are located throughout the South.
