Welcome to the City of Hermiston
It’s my privilege to welcome you to Hermiston, Where Life is Sweet! We are the home of the 2017 Oregon State Football Champions and the newest member of the Washington Interscholastic Athletic/Activities Association. Through our unique location and proximity with the Tri-Cities Washington our relationships continue to blossom both here in Oregon and across the river in Washington.
Hermiston continues to work on quality-of-life issues that make living here both enjoyable and affordable. Due to our continuing growth as a community, we are faced with some growing pains. You’ll see construction going on everywhere including more housing construction! So please pardon the dust and traffic challenges. However, with that growth also brings new opportunities to add resources and amenities to our community. We’ve recently completed a new 7,000-square-foot Harkenrider Senior Center at the extension of the new, downtown Festival Street. We’ve also added new parking lots and angled parking to improve downtown parking options. More businesses continue to invest in that area of town, so please visit downtown and see all that’s new.
We just hosted the 103rd annual Umatilla County Fair and the 31st Farm City Pro Rodeo, now at their new location on the 90-acre site of the Eastern Oregon Trade and Event Center. We have more enhancements coming to that site in the near future, including RV parking and new fair offices and storage spaces. We currently are looking at more recreation options for our community as well, including an enhanced trail system, more outdoor field spaces and indoor recreation options.
