Merrillville Community School Corporation provides education to students of all ages, preschoolers through senior citizens. Merrillville schools believe that communication is the key to a relationship between students, staff, and parents that will create the most beneficial learning environment. Their mission is to provide students with skills for “independent learning, responsible citizenship, and productive employment.” Merrillville schools achieve this mission through an exciting and challenging mix of classes, programs and extracurriculars.

Lifelong learning is of great importance in the Merrillville school system. Not only does the school system provide curriculum designed to prepare students for colleges and careers after graduation, but it is also a participant of the 21st Century Scholars Program. This program assists low- and moderate-income students who enroll in the program and “fulfill a pledge of good citizenship to the state” in being able to afford college tuition. MCSC also provides adult and community education that includes high school credit, test prep and a wide variety of community education courses.

Merrillville High School has been named a model school by International Center for Leadership in Education, received a bronze rating as one of the Nation’s Best High Schools by U.S. News & World Report and is nationally recognized by the Coalition of Schools Educating Boys of Color.
