With new businesses choosing Edmond to open their doors, it’s no surprise the Edmond Chamber coordinated nearly 100 ribbon cuttings in 2018. People have flocked to Edmond to take advantage of the many amenities offered, with the convenience of being just 13 miles from Oklahoma City.

SHOP

Edmond continues to strengthen its reputation as a retail destination. Edmond remains a hub for shoppers across the region and is consistently welcoming new businesses to town. With more than 3.2 million square feet of retail space, Edmond is sure to meet every shopper’s needs.

In 2018, Edmond welcomed several new businesses including Lulu and Lo’s and Gathered Home Shop in downtown. Lulu and Lo’s has something for everyone. From novelty gifts to home décor, visitors will find it hard to leave the store empty-handed. Just across the street, Gathered Home Shop offers art, jewelry and home goods from all over the world. In addition to being a retail space, Gathered also hosts creative sessions for the community that includes clay caking, block printing and calligraphy.

With all the stores in downtown Edmond, it’s easy to spend an afternoon walking from shop to shop. Native Summit Adventure Outfitters at 100 N. Broadway is one of many unique places in downtown where buyers can find quality goods. Native Summit specializes in outdoor apparel for men and women and boasts a knowledgeable staff to help customers find the perfect product. Just around the corner, Pink Petal keeps all the latest women’s trends in stock. Be sure to check out the many other Edmond exclusives in the Downtown Edmond strip, such as: Tack Designs, Hello Love Salon and Boutique, Maison Bleue, Silver Leaf Gems and Fashion Boutique.

One of Edmond’s favorite shopping areas is easily Spring Creek. PLENTY Mercantile offers one-of-a-kind items for every member of the family with a wide selection of gifts, apparel for all ages, home décor and handcrafted jewelry. Spring Creek is also home to many of Edmond’s prime shopping destinations, such as New Balance and Optique Vision Center.

With development moving in every direction, Edmond continues to add more shopping venues for its citizens and visitors. The city is looking forward to several new businesses in 2019.

EAT

In addition to Edmond’s shopping destinations, the community also takes advantage of the opportunity for fine dining. With more than 200 restaurants ranging from casual fast-food to exclusive gourmet, Edmond is considered an excellent dining destination. Various restaurants and chefs in Edmond have been recognized in Southern Living, Bon Appetite, Gourmet magazines and other publications. From local staples like Café 501, Boulevard Steakhouse and Signature Grill, to regional and national chains offering traditional, family-style and ethnic cuisine – dining in Edmond is a great experience!

In the last year, dozens of new restaurants have opened for business including Cowboy Chicken, Salata, Taziki’s and Matty McMillen’s Irish Pub. Matty McMillen’s is a part of the Hal Smith Restaurant family and is on the west side of town. The restaurant and pub has a wide variety of Irish and American flavors including shepherds pie, cheese curds and corned beef and cabbage. The bar offers Irish and American whiskeys, scotches and beers. In 2019, Edmond is excited to welcome new restaurants including three Oklahoma City favorites, Sunnyside Dinner, Pub W and Honey Bunny Biscuit Co.

Residents are excited to embrace a new development in downtown to be known as the Edmond Rail Spurr District. Renovations are set to begin in 2019 on the old Edmond Ice Co. that will transform the space into at least three restaurants spanning across 15,000 square feet on the 1.74-acre property. The City of Edmond is investing $700,000 in improvements that will include 82 parking spaces.

The Edmond Chamber continues its weeklong efforts to feature participating restaurants in the Edmond area. This event is known as Restaurant Week. Local foodies have plenty of diverse eats to choose from with each participating restaurant creating a limited-time menu specifically for Edmond Restaurant Week with special savings and promotions. Participate as a restaurant or a food-lover every year in February.

SLEEP

Edmond offers nearly 1,000 quality hotel rooms within its city limits, and several hundred more along the Kilpatrick Turnpike corridor in the Edmond area. Most rooms available carry marquees like Hampton Inn, Best Western Inn and Suites, Comfort Inn, Holiday Inn Express and LaQuinta. Most offer amenities including indoor swimming, exercise facilities and complimentary full or continental breakfasts.

In 2018, The Hilton Garden Inn and Edmond Conference Center opened its doors along I-35 and Covell. Partnering with a private developer, the City of Edmond has gone above and beyond to make Edmond a top contender for conferences and events. Located close to the center of the state and boasting brand new facilities, the conference center is a hub for many organizations to host their events. In addition to the traffic of events, it is likely attendees of events will stay in the hotel section of the facility. The building includes 158 guest rooms along with the conference center.

ShowBiz Cinemas, a family entertainment center, was a new addition to Edmond in December 2018. Located next door to the hotel and conference center, the new facility offers movies, bowling, arcade games and more.

These new additions and long-lasting businesses in shopping, eating, and hotel accommodations are proof that Edmond continues to be the ideal place to live, work, play and grow.
