Edison’s economy is driven by a diverse assortment of retail and hospitality businesses. From the small shops to the big box chains; the diners to the fresh farmers’ market; and the family-owned motel to amenity-rich resort hotels, Edison has it all, and then some. The area continues to develop new retail, dining and lodging spaces, while also redeveloping longstanding properties to better serve today’s consumer.

Edison Township features more than 15 neighborhood shopping centers jam-packed with stores and eateries to please all interests and tastes. Notable locations include Wick Plaza on Route 1, Inman Grove Shopping Center on Inman and Grove avenues, Tano Mall on Amboy Avenue and Oak Tree Road Center on Oak Tree Road. The latter features a unique mix of small, independent businesses and restaurants, and also caters to the area’s growing Asian Indian population.

Historic Amboy Avenue is a quaint part of town, featuring the local farmers’ market, a locally-owned coffee shop and family-run hair salons and restaurants. Shoppers and diners alike also revel in Menlo Park Mall, an all-weather center with more than 120 specialty shops and well-known department stores.

As for the dining options, national chains provide excellent menus and dozens of independently owned restaurants serve cuisine to meet any taste. Clean and comfortable lodging facilities are also readily available for the leisure visitor or the traveling business person. Thousands of rooms are available at more than 15 hotels and motels in town. Many of these properties also feature conference rooms, convention coordination and catering ideal for any business meeting.

Developers continue to build new mixed-use centers designed for the modern business, including the most recent addition to the retail landscape at Hartz Mountain Industries’ 400,000-square-foot Edison Towne Square on Route 1, anchored by Sam’s Club. Ultimate plans for this area includes a 150-room hotel, a movie theater, several restaurants, office space, a bank and a gas station.
