Education: Learning to Succeed in West Covina
Three school districts serve students in the city of West Covina. The West Covina Unified School District is the main school district for the city and is home to nine elementary schools, three middle schools, one high school, and one continuation high school. West Covina also has several private schools, numerous preschools, vocational schools and one adult school.
Community colleges available in the area include Citrus Community College, Mount San Antonio College, Rio Hondo Community College, Whittier Community College, and Pasadena City College. Several higher education institutions are located near West Covina, too. Azusa Pacific University, California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and the University of Phoenix are just three of the many universities within close proximity.
West Covina’s schools include California Distinguished Schools and Blue Ribbon Schools. Monte Vista Elementary and San Jose Edison were recently honored with the Title 1 Academic Achievement Award. The West Covina High School Robotics Team competed internationally and placed second in the world with their five-foot, 120-pound robot. The West Covina High School football team earned the coveted title of California Interscholastic Federation Champions in 2004, and the basketball team won the 2006 League Championship.
West Covina is proud of the accomplishments of its schools and the achievements of its students. Many students have generously given their time volunteering, and charitable organizations throughout the city have benefited from their efforts.
