Filming in Napa

Filming in Napa

Many films, travel programs and commercials are shot on location in Napa Valley. The city of Napa is happy to help facilitate filming and photography in our community whenever possible.

It is common that we are asked for information about locations, but this is not a service we provide and encourage you to contact one of the location scouts who specialize in this work. It is also common that we are asked about filming in vineyards or wineries, but there are very few locations inside the city limits that can provide these settings. Most often, the sites envisioned are outside the city and will need consent from either private property owners or from the County of Napa.

If a shoot inside the city limits is desired, and the shoot will impact traffic circulation, consume parking spaces, close off sidewalks, make use of public property like a city park, or cause other inconvenience to businesses and/or residents, a Film/Photo Permit is required. The permit is not difficult to get – all that’s typically needed is the completed permit application, insurance certificate and payment of use fees.

Film Permits information can be found at www.cityofnapa.org by selecting the Permits and Licenses link from the Quick Links menu. The city’s Special Event Coordinator, Kelly Abernathy, in the Park and Recreation Services Department, issues permits. Contact Kelly at 707-257-9529 or email kabernathy@cityofnapa.org.

For information not available through the permit process or other questions, contact Barry Martin, Film Liaison in the city Manager’s office, at 707-258-7843 or email bmartin@cityofnapa.org.
