Parks and Recreation

The Glendale Heights Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department provides a number of recreational opportunities for the residents of the village. The parks and recreation departments features more than 20 parks and facilities that offers something for all ages. Some of the more notable facilities include Camera Park, a 64-acre park in the center of town featuring a playground, basketball courts, athletic fields, a skate park and a large walking path system. Camera Park is also the home for the village’s annual Glendale Heights Fest in July, Oktoberfest in September and an array of other events throughout the year.

The Glendale Heights Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department is housed out of the Glendale Heights Sports Hub. This facility has a number of preschool classrooms, dance studios and meeting rooms, as well as an indoor playground, a workout facility, gymnasium, walking track and indoor soccer field. Open year-round, this facility has something for everyone with open gym hours daily. In addition, the Sports Hub plans many programs from dance to martial arts athletic programs from tot sports to Glendale Heights Youth Baseball and Softball and Glendale Heights Spartans football and cheerleading.

During the summer, the Glendale Heights aquatic facility GH20, is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. With a splash pad, zero-depth pool, water slides, diving well with both high and low dives, as well the area’s only FlowRider surfing simulator, GH20 is a great place to “Hang 10” during the summer. With both weekday and weekend lessons for swimming, another fun activity is to join the Dolphins Swim Team, which has meets throughout the summer.

Glendale Lakes Golf Club is for golfers of every skill level. This 18-hole championship course features bent grass tees, fairways and greens with water in play on 11 of the 18 holes. With a banquet facility that can hold 250 people, this is a great facility for not only a golf outing, but also a wedding, shower, birthday party or holiday party.

Glendale Heights also has other recreational organizations that offer programs and facilities for the residents. The B.R. Ryall YMCA, located in nearby Glen Ellyn, offers programs in aquatics, fitness, sports, summer camps, art and more. The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s nearly 500 acre East Branch Forest Preserve outlines the village’s eastern border. Outdoor activities here include fishing at Rush Lake and Sunfish pond, as well as using the two-mile trail.
