Elk City’s government, has been recognized numerous times for its original ideas and successful programs, is a city commission-city manager form of government as created by a Charter, duly voted on and adopted by the citizens of Elk City.
Elk City is divided into four wards, which in turn are each represented by one elected commissioner. The commissioner
is nominated by wards, and all are elected at large.
Police protection is provided by the Elk City Police Department, which employs more than 20 officers and seven auxiliary officers.
Fire and emergency/rescue services are provided by the Elk City Fire Department, which is composed of both full-time and volunteer workers. Additionally, the department maintains three Class A fire engines, one Class A aerial engine, a rescue unit and tankers for rural fire protection.
Elk City residents have access to 911 service for all emergency calls.
