I am Sonya Stinson, Probate Judge and Chairman of the Monroe County Commission. I welcome you to Monroe County!! We are a small, rural county with plenty of natural resources for you and your family to enjoy. We are close to the beautiful Alabama River where you can find the peaceful and relaxing, Isaac Creek Campground. We offer a stress-free and peaceful escape from your everyday hectic lifestyle. Monroe County is a place where you are only a visitor once; after that you are family.
Monroe County offers a great quality of life. Our county offers beautiful, safe neighborhoods. Real estate costs are very reasonable. We have a great public-school system; an outstanding private school; and a great community college that offers many certificate programs, two-year degree programs and some four-year degree programs. We also have excellent medical facilities that include our state-of-the-art hospital, veteran’s clinic and urgent care facility.
One of our exceptional assets is The Monroe County Aeroplex. It offers a 6100-foot runway that is sufficient for landing large corporate jets. We have industrial sites ready for new tenants. We have welcomed several new businesses this year and are looking forward to announcing the opening of several more before the end of the year.
Monroe County is full of history! One of our famous historic sites is The Monroe County Museum. Every year on the museum grounds you can watch the play To Kill a Mockingbird enacted by local volunteer talent. The play has been listed in the Top 10 Events for Alabama Tourism. The City of Monroeville is known as the “Literary Capital of Alabama.” The City of Monroeville also offers a historic walking tour that covers turn-of-the-century homes.
The County Commission and I are continually working with the City of Monroeville, Monroeville Mainstreet and the Monroeville/Monroe County Economic Development Authority to bring new economic growth to our county. We are all looking forward to a bright economic future.
We love our visitors and we hope you like Monroe County enough to call it home!
