Tthe City of Monrovia is a full-service city that strives to provide premiere customer service to all Monrovia residents, businesses, and visitors. The city was founded in 1887, making it the fourth oldest incorporated city in Los Angeles County!

The elected city officials include a directly-elected mayor and four councilmembers, a city clerk, and a city treasurer. The city council provides policy direction to an appointed city manager, who runs the day-to-day operations of the city and manages a team of 250 full-time staff. The city council also appoints board members and commissioners to act as advisors in specific areas of city business.

Today, Monrovia provides many vital services and program offerings to the community, including operating our own police and fire departments, water utility, community center, and public library. The library has a regional draw with robust child, teen, and adult programming all year-round, along with a Veteran’s Resource Center. The recreation division organizes classes and special events throughout the year, including the popular Monrovia Days Community Festival.

The City strives to provide premiere service by investing in its streets, water and sewer systems, and sidewalks; maintaining nine parks with over 120 acres; ensuring building safety; providing passport services; and so much more. The City also publishes a quarterly activity guide called Monrovia Today, which is sent to every Monrovia residence.n
