Business and Industry

Eastern Madera County (Highway 41) is the most-used entrance to Yosemite, and the visitation grows steadily—regardless of economic conditions nationally. Almost 4 million people visit Yosemite each year—1.5 million entered through Oakhurst, and 2 million exited this direction. With this amount of traffic passing through our community, it is easy to see why our number one industry is tourism!

But light industry and communications companies also find Eastern Madera County a compatible place to locate. Just ask corporations like Sierra Telephone, Raymond Granite Company, Simply Smashing, Idea Print Works and the United States Forest Service.

Tourism Industry

Eastern Madera County is a great place to hold your business, social, religious or organization conference. With Yosemite National Park as a backdrop, many groups use our conference facilities to let attendees have the opportunity to see one of the most majestic natural wonders of the world.

Savvy tourists can luxuriate at Chateau De Sureau, one of three resorts in the United States that boasts both a 5-star Michelin and a 5-Diamond AAA rating. In fact, the Chateau De Sureau and the on-site restaurant, Erna’s Elderberry House, hold the top rankings in every guide that rates hotels, resorts and restaurants. The top ratings clearly indicated Erna’s (as the resort is affectionately referred to) superior service, attention to detail and gourmet cuisine. Erna’s is the perfect getaway for that special occasion, romantic evening out or dream vacation. You can also soothe both your mind and your body at their newly opened, first-class European spa.

The Pines Resort and Conference Center in the Sierra National Forest on the northshore of Bass Lake features 50 acres devoted to 84 two-story chalets and 20 richly appointed suites. Twelve of the lakefront suites have in-room spas. Visitors may request accommodations with a desk and data ports for state-of-the-art convenience. The meeting rooms and banquet facilities here can accommodate 400 guests, with video conferencing and software available for professional presentations.

Episcopal Conference Center in Oakhurst (ECCO) has been serving Eastern Madera County for 22 years. Owned by the Episcopal Diocese of San Joaquin, ECCO has matured at a quiet, steady pace in keeping with the tranquility of its 160 acres of forests and meadows. Thanks to its seclusion just off Highway 41, guests enjoy watching ducks, herons, mud hens and other waterfowl settle on ECCO’s pond throughout the year.

Used primarily as a conference center, ECCO can house up to 150 people. A variety of well-appointed meeting rooms offer church, educational and nonprofit organizations a place to meet in perfect serenity. A superb dining room accommodates groups as small as 15 to banquets of more than 200.

Tenaya Lodge is an AAA four-star resort located less than two miles from the south gate to Yosemite. Tenaya Lodge provides complete state-of-the-art conference facilities and 244 rooms. Full amenities, fine and casual dining, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, spa, and a concierge with a nonstop list of activities makes the Tenaya another premium choice for your meeting or conference. Conference rooms can accommodate smaller meeting groups, and the banquet facilities can go from a small facility that will comfortably hold 50–100 guests and can expand to accommodate several hundred.

The Community Center of Oakhurst serves as the social hub for Oakhurst and its surrounding mountain area. Thanks to the immaculately well-kept landscape and outdoor stage, the Community Center is a magnet for weddings and receptions, anniversary celebrations, birthday parties, and class reunions.

But it’s also a draw for everyday life as well. Square and Round Dance clubs meet regularly at the Center, along with the Mountain Community Women, Weight Watchers and other organizations. The Department of Motor Vehicles provides services at the Center each Tuesday, and the Oakhurst Community Advisory Council meets regularly on the last Thursday of each month.

The main hall, which can hold up to 300 people, features a hardwood floor, large stage area and an excellent sound system. Additional rooms make the ideal place for smaller meetings and events.

Located in Coarsegold, the Chukchansi Gold Resort and Casino is a great choice if you need a facility located a little closer to Fresno, yet still an easy drive into Yosemite. The Chukchansi offers several restaurants; conference facilities; meeting rooms; more than 300 rooms; indoor/ outdoor pool; spa; live entertainment; and 24-hour slot machines, gaming tables, and more. They also provide shuttle services from Madera, Fresno, Coarsegold and Oakhurst.
