The city of Alamogordo Community Services Department provides and maintains quality parks, facilities, natural-space programs and services that enhance the physical, social and emotional well-being of the citizens of Alamogordo.
The city of Alamogordo maintains over 400 acres of parks and sports-related areas, including a state-of-the-art skateboard park. The city’s Family Recreation Center offers a variety of activities for residents and visitors, and its facilities include an aquatics area, a gymnasium, a multi-purpose room, youth activities area and a fully equipped weight room.
The Alameda Park Zoo (the oldest zoo west of the Mississippi) has more than 250 exotic and indigenous animals. The Senior Center provides a variety of services for persons age 60 and over. Programs include nutrition, recreation, and fitness activities. The Alamogordo Public Library has a collection of over 100,000 volumes. The Willie Estrada Memorial Civic Center provides facilities and services for meetings, seminars, conventions, concerts and social and cultural events.
