Pekin Chamber of Commerce

THE PEKIN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
In October 1893, a group of civic-minded businessmen incorporated the Citizens Improvement Association of Pekin. The organization was formed for the purpose of “advancing the business interest and promoting the commercial growth of the City of Pekin.”

Over the years, the group changed its name and merged with another business organization, eventually becoming known as the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce in 1978.

Today, the Chamber’s mission is simple – to help its members grow and prosper. Through advocacy, economic development initiatives and benefit programs, the Chamber creates opportunities for all of its members to succeed.

A strong and active Chamber of Commerce provides the community with support for quality-of-life events and support for local organizations. By default, the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce also serves at the information clearinghouse for the community and is often the “front door” and first contact for people new to the Pekin area.

Networking events help members connect with other businesses and community leaders, while the R. David Tebben Community Leadership Academy prepares current and future business leaders for the leadership challenges and opportunities in the community. Additionally, the Chamber is “home base” for two of the community’s annual traditions – the Fourth of July Honor America fireworks celebration and the Pekin Marigold Festival.

As one of the oldest chambers in Illinois, the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce is a deeply integral part of the city of Pekin and a vital link in the chain of businesses, organizations, leaders and volunteers that work collaboratively to make Pekin a vibrant, successful community.
