Experience over 400 acres of parkland within more than nine locations through the City of Weatherford Parks & Recreation system. Weatherford residents are able to partake in family friendly activities and enjoy remarkable amenities. The department is committed to enriching the quality of life through exceptional programs, parks and facilities, all while preserving the community’s natural beauty and environment.
The recently renovated Holland Lake Park houses three state-of-the-art softball fields, which are utilized year-round by activities sponsored and organized by the Recreation Department, such as adult softball and kickball leagues, tournaments, movies in the park and children’s Blastball. The newest facility, Love Street Park, features fitness-themed components including age-appropriate playgrounds, a spray pad, a 1Ú4-mile concrete walking path, a lighted basketball court, a fishing pond and 3.5 acres of irrigated open space.In addition, the parks have a total of two community buildings, six pavilions and five softball fields that are available for public use or reserved use. The programming available to residents of all ages, interests and skill levels includes creative arts, adult sports leagues, youth sports, one-day camps, special events and tons of family fun.
The Town Creek Hike & Bike Trail is the perfect exercise venue for Weatherford residents. Featuring four trailheads (at the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce, Police Station, Holland Lake Park and Bose Ikard School), the trail offers beautiful scenery and rest areas for the casual visitor and plenty of challenge for runners and cyclists.
A first-class Learn to Swim program is offered every summer at the Cherry Park Pool, which is open Memorial Day through Labor Day. Many from the Learn to Swim program eventually make their way to the City of Weatherford Swim Team, which is known to produce qualifiers and winners on the local, regional, state and national level. The pool was recently renovated to house a splash pad and exemplary amenities, and is available for private rentals as well.
The Parks and Recreation Department also operates and maintains Chandor Gardens, which captures both the ornate design of ancient Chinese architecture and the elegance of a formal English garden in the heart of Weatherford. The picturesque setting of the gardens makes an ideal location for special events, retreats, private parties and weddings. The 5,600-square-foot mansion perfectly accommodates indoor meeting space needs, as does the 3.5-acre estate, which leads its visitors on a meandering path of beauty and wonderment. From the 30-foot man-made waterfall, to the various soothing fountains, the gardens have something new and exciting to offer at every turn.
The First Monday Grounds also accommodate several special events for city residents. First Monday Trade Days is a time-honored tradition, which dates back to the turn of the 20th century and is known as one of the oldest flea markets in Texas. First Monday Trade Days is an open-air market that is held the weekend before the first Monday of each month. The grounds are currently undergoing major renovations, which will be more inviting to vendors and shoppers and allow for increased activity.
