Residents of Chino Valley are proud of the Chino Valley Unified School District, which provides outstanding education for kindergarten through high school students, with pre-school care available at local child care centers. The District claimed 4 out of 10 finalists for Yavapai County’s Teacher of the Year Award in 2014, and boasts 4 Ph.D. instructors.

Striving to “innovate, connect and educate,” the District offers a middle school concept and a four-day school week. In 2013-14, Chino Valley students in 3rd through 8th grades out-performed the county and state in reading, math, science and writing tests.

At Chino Valley High School, programs assist all levels of students and the school boasted its highest graduation rate ever — 81% — in 2013-14. CVHS offers notable agriculture, business, pre-engineering and culinary arts programs which have received statewide and national recognition, as well as offering nine dual-enrollment courses with Yavapai College and four on-campus Career and Technical Education Programs. Recognition has also come for CVHS’s music and art programs and in school sports, including football, basketball and a state-champion soccer team.

The Mountain Institute – Joint Technical Education District, or JTED, is just one of 12 such districts in the state of Arizona, offering high-school level courses in aviation, transportation and welding technologies, culinary arts, drafting and design, pre-engineering and robotics, education, and the medical professions. With a satellite campus at Chino Valley High School, the Institute will offer an Honors Academy in 2014-15, has produced local student leaders of statewide organizations and is known for its cooperative efforts on behalf of its students with local colleges.

For post-secondary education, students have several choices in a multitude of disciplines and educational styles.

Yavapai College – Chino Valley is an extension of the Yavapai College program offering two-year associate’s degrees in a wide variety of subjects. The Chino Valley campus is unique because it houses the Chino Valley Agribusiness & Science Technology Center and offers programs in agribusiness technology, residential building technology, hydroponics, equine science and fisheries management, and also offers general education classes, including English, mathematics and science. Recently, Yavapai College – CV was also been awarded one of two nationwide drone programs, utilizing the wide open spaces around campus to test unmanned aircraft.

The Chino Valley campus features a large greenhouse, fish hatchery, equestrian arena, computer lab, lake, wetlands, a carpentry/construction shop and a science lab. The main campus building has received Silver LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Yavapai College is also committed to building and maintaining community and business partnerships to assist with job placements.

Yavapai College – Career & Technical Education Center near the Prescott airport (8 miles) is a state-of-the-art facility accommodating trade and technical programs which often require large equipment. CTEC provides students a hands-on training facility for automotive technology, CNC (computer numerical control), diesel technology, motorcycle technology, electrical instrumentation, gunsmithing, welding and industrial plant technology, plus a summer robotics camp.

NAU – Yavapai in nearby Prescott Valley is an extended campus of Northern Arizona University, Arizona’s third-largest university with a home campus in Flagstaff. The university is now offering students a cost-saving program of year-round education which allows students to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in just three years instead of four. Areas of emphasis include service-industry management, community development and sustainability, and entrepreneurship. In addition to the campus experience, NAU also offers online education and degrees.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott focuses on aviation and international security while expanding its athletic departments to include volleyball, soccer, fast-pitch softball, wrestling and basketball. ERAU offers bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D. degrees in arts and sciences, aviation, engineering, meteorology, forensic biology and cyber security and intelligence. Aviation students from Embry-Riddle have helped Prescott’s Love Field to be the second-busiest airport in the state in 2013.

Guidance Aviation provides top-notch helicopter flight training through its program of Flight Cost Reduction Training (FCRT), which expands the typical ground school by integrating multiple learning strategies, high-tech simulation and the best teaching techniques available. High-definition flight training videos are now available 24/7 on an app for any mobile device or home computer. In addition, technology advancements have allowed the school to provide flight simulators to each student and to develop the proprietary “PASS” or Professional Aviator Scenario Simulator program which replaces the classroom lecture.

Gunsite Academy in Chino Valley offers week-long training sessions on personal gun training and teaches the responsible, safe and effective use of small arms in self-defense to elite military personnel, law enforcement officers and others. Each Instructor at Gunsite is someone who has served in law enforcement, the military or both. Marksmanship, gun-handling and mind-set make up the Combat Triad philosophy taught at the Academy.

Other area educational institutions include Prescott College and online education through North Central University and Old Dominion University.
