Schools Make the Grade
The School District of Manatee County is a dynamic educational system that is home to more than 49,000 students, 60 schools and one of the nation’s most highly-regarded adult and career educational centers – Manatee Technical College. The stated mission of the school district is to “educate and develop all students today for their success tomorrow.”
Graduating high school seniors in the district’s Class of 2018 earned more than $16.3 million in scholarships and were accepted into approximately 240 colleges and universities across the country, including California-Berkley, Columbia, Dartmouth, Georgetown, Harvard, Morehouse, Northwestern, Notre Dame, UNC-Chapel Hill, the United States Naval Academy, Vanderbilt and Yale; as well as virtually every public and private college and university in the state of Florida. Students from Manatee County’s Class of 2018 also entered into the U.S. Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and Navy.
District students continue to excel at state and national academic and technology oriented competitions. One team of students representing three different Manatee District high schools finished third in a global competition in 2018 during the F1 in Schools World Finals held in Singapore. During that competition, 50 teams representing 31 countries used computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing to collaborate, design, analyze, manufacture, test and race miniature compressed air powered Formula One cars.
The School District of Manatee County continues to flourish thanks to growth in southwest Florida and is preparing to open three new schools – a new high school, a new middle school, and a new elementary school – in August 2019.
