Shopping in Laurens County
Shoppers in Laurens County can find everything they need right around the corner, with a number of retail stores offering foods and services from groceries to tailoring, or hardware to jewelers. Patrons will find unique gift shops and antique stores, as well as garden centers, wedding shops and a full-service men’s store. The Laurens community also hosts the local Farmers Market, which is open each Saturday morning on the Court House Square in downtown Laurens from April through September. Here, shoppers will discover fresh-from-the-farm produce, as well as plants, handmade crafts and other specialty items.
Joining the area’s selection of retailers is its myriad of restaurants. Hungry diners are invited to enjoy a delicious meal from a number of local eateries cooking up down-home southern food, classic American dishes and delicious global fare. Take a seat at a casual café, catch the game at a local sports bar or sit down for an elegant meal with Italian, Chinese or Mexican influences — no matter the appetite or occasion, Laurens County restaurants are sure to please.
The Laurens County Chamber of Commerce launched a major community initiative, the Shop Laurens County First Campaign, in 2009 to encourage local residents to spend locally. The annual six-month-long campaign, which runs from mid-summer through the end of the year, features hundreds of local businesses. During this time, participating businesses accept “Laurens County Bucks” — vouchers that are sold to the general public at a 10 percent discount to be used at participating businesses for products and services at full face value. Among the participants are retailers, professional services and restaurants. For more detailed information, visit the Chamber’s website at www.laurenscounty.org.
