The Community Center at Tierra Del Sol operates Cathedral City’s senior center and is dedicated in assisting all seniors, from the active to the homebound, to improve their quality of life. This goal is accomplished by providing services that channel energy, relieve suffering and protect their health, happiness and well-being.

The Boys and Girls Club of Cathedral City provides all day and after school care for children ages 6-18. They provide transportation from Landau Elementary, Sunny Sands Elementary and James Workman Middle Schools. They also operate three after school programs at Rio Vista, Cathedral City and Agua Caliente Elementary Schools. Program development is based on the five core areas of Character and Leadership, Education and Career Development, Health and Life Skills, Arts and Crafts, Sports and Fitness, Social Recreation, and Teen Programs on Tuesday-Thursday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Community Special Events

A number of special events, designed to enhance community unity, generate retail sales and boost tourism, have been originated by the City Special Events Subcommittee, the Chamber of Commerce, the City Marketing Committee and others. Involvement by the Parks and Recreation Commission, Public Arts Commission, Chamber of Commerce, Service Clubs, Library Board, Senior Center, Boys and Girls Club, students, SCRAP Gallery, businesses and others is necessary for the success of these events.

Live Arts
The Cathedral City Public Arts Commission annually launches its LIVE ARTS series each fall. This year the series consists of seven monthly performances free to the public in venues throughout the city. It features a range of artists from pop to classics, opera to original compositions. Each year is a special treat to the audience.

Fountainworks: at Town Square (July 3)
Community-building, family event at Town Square. Features entertainment, vendors, children’s games and water play in the Fountain of Life.

Fire Department Open House (October)
Tour of Headquarters Fire Station, 32-100 Desert Vista Road, exhibits of apparatus, pancake breakfast, from 8 to 11 a.m.

Pumpkin Carving Contest (October)
Forest Lawn Cathedral City hosts this fun and creative event.

Healing Fields (November)
This moving event features one U.S. Flag for each military person lost in the Afghanistan and Iraq conflict. The flags are displayed in Patriot Park at the corner of Date Palm and Dinah Shore Drives.

Minerva Drive Holiday Spectacular Display of Lights and Decorations (December)
Locally known as Candy Cane Lane, this panorama residential area along Minerva Drive comes alive with the spirit of the holidays.

Holiday Tree Lighting (December 4)
Holiday tree lighting in Town Square, carols, choirs, hot chocolate, cookies, and, of course, the arrival of Santa Claus.

Orion Community Service Awards (January)
The Orion Awards celebrate Cathedral City’s business and community achievements. Recipients are nominated by and voted on by other Chamber members. The categories include Business of the Year, Restaurant of the Year, Man of the Year, Non-Profit of the Year, Woman of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Youth of the Year and Volunteer of the Year.

Golden Apple Awards (March)
Honoring Educators and Administrators in the Coachella Valley.

Easter Services
Forest Lawn Cathedral City hosts Sunrise Service and children’s Easter Egg Hunt.
