Things to Do in Lindsay
The Lindsay Historical Society operates two historic museums in the Erin Springs Community just south of Lindsay off highway 76. The beautiful three-story Murray Lindsay Mansion was the home of Frank and Alzira Murray and still stands as a legacy in this community in Garvin County.
Lewis and Anita Lindsay lived in the home until the 1960s, and it was redecorated by their daughter Tess Lindsay. Many beautiful Lindsay family heirlooms and pieces of furniture have been maintained through donations from the family and community.
The mansion is open from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. To arrange a tour at a different time, call (405) 756-6502 or (405) 919-6146.
PIKES PEAK SCHOOL
The Pikes Peak Museum, a two-room school that operated in the Pikes Peak community until 1958, sits across from the Murray Lindsay Mansion.
Many photos of school years and other historical items are on display. The school has been restored and is maintained through donations from Pikes Peak alumni and others.
Several events are held in the school museum including the Homecoming on the last Saturday of July and Christmas at the Mansion on the first Sunday of December.
Group and individual tours are scheduled by appointment, and school tours are offered as a step back in time of what it was like to attend a rural school.
To schedule a tour of either museum, call (405) 756-6502 or 405-919-6146.
