Renewal is the new normal in Wheaton this year. The new streetscape on Front Street in Downtown Wheaton is drawing the attention of prospective businesses. The second phase of downtown improvements is now underway for Wesley, Cross and Hale streets. Work on this phase is expected to be completed in early fall 2019. Liberty Street will be updated beginning spring 2020. The wider sidewalks, lighting, community fireplace and decorative fountain at the new Martin Memorial Plaza are a testament to the City of Wheaton’s commitment to maintain an updated and vibrant downtown for its residents.
Downtown Wheaton is quickly becoming a dining destination in the western suburbs, currently boasting 37 restaurants, coffee shops and confectionaries. Several new names will be added to the roster this year including Fearless Donuts, Pacific Tacos, 302 Wheaton and Altiro of Wheaton.
The Danada Area of Wheaton is experiencing a transformation of its own with new businesses, new development and a rising occupancy rate. Rice Lake Square welcomed Pete’s Fresh Market. Danada Square East is bustling with a great mix of grocery, retail restaurants and services including LemonShark Poke and Aligned Modern Health. Danada Square West is pleased to have a new gift store, Every Good Thing.
Town Square Wheaton has welcomed Salon Lofts, Prairie Path Books, Luggage & More and True North Clinical Associates.
The City of Wheaton is studying the East Roosevelt Road Corridor from Carlton Avenue east to the city limits to determine its future use. They will review existing zoning regulations and propose new categories of land uses aligned with current market conditions. Realistic options for maintaining and enhancing the existing affordable housing opportunities are also being explored.
