Welcome to Austin County, Texas

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Austin County. It is my sincere wish that you an yours enjoy the many hidden treasures and rich Texas History Austin County has to offer. Austin County is home of San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site, the location where Stephen F. Austin established his colony in 1823. The establishment of San Felipe was a pivotal part of Texas’ history and once the social, economic and political center, in addition to being the first capital of the interim government of Texas.

The visitor’s guide is a useful resource for the numerous attractions, events, churches and accommodations located
within our county. It is my hop that you escape from your day to day routine and explore some of our many places of interest for a day trip or weekend getaway.
