Thanks to its beautiful location, vibrant communities and stellar resources, the Hanover Area is the “GO, SEE, DO, VISIT, SHOP, PLAY and LEARN” place for everyone. No matter where you are or who you’re with, you’ll find this is one of the most special places in the country.
Create memories in the Hanover Area during any season, whether it’s for a day, a week or longer. Whatever the activity may be, active or relaxing, we are sure that it will stay with you for a lifetime. This delightful set of New England towns (Hanover, Etna and Lyme, New Hampshire and Norwich, Vermont) spans the banks of the Connecticut River and is a visitor’s paradise in any season. Located just a few miles north of the crossroads of Interstates 89 and 91, these quaint towns offer a halfway point between Massachusetts and Canada.
Fall foliage is extraordinary in the Hanover Area during peak season! The area is ripe for picking apples and pumpkins, hiking to spectacular views across the mountains and enjoying corn mazes and hayrides. Not to mention that it is also the perfect weather for shopping!
Winter activities include skating at Occom Pond and indoor arenas; alpine skiing at the Dartmouth Skiway and other local and regional ski areas; cross-country skiing at the Hanover Country Club, Eastman (Grantham) and Woodstock, Vermont; and sledding or snowshoeing at an array of other hills in this mountainous area. In addition, the Occom Pond party and Winter Carnival are fun and unique events on our winter calendar.
Spring brings “sugar season” and maple sugaring. Or take a brisk walk while watching birds migrate into the region. Maybe you’d like to stroll down Main Street in Hanover or in Norwich, Vermont, and enjoy streets filled with specialty shops, businesses and restaurants! The arts and cultural activities are great ways to get out – from theatrical productions to live music, art galleries and craft fairs.
Summer’s warm days and cool nights provide the perfect environment to “beat the heat.” Take in an outdoor concert; experience live theater; canoe, kayak or swim in the Connecticut River; hike the Appalachian Trail; sip a beverage on a true New England patio; camp; shop till you drop; or come for one of the many fairs and festivals in the region. Get out of the heat and visit the cool Hanover Area in the summer.
