Location
Leesburg is located in the heart of the Florida peninsula, south of the Ocala National Forest and about 45 minutes northeast of Orlando. It sits on the Lake Wales Ridge, a range of hills that runs north to south. Travelers arriving by car find Leesburg at exits where the Florida Turnpike merges with I-75. Major highways include U.S. 441 and U.S. 27.

Leesburg International Airport, handling private and charter flights in conjunction with SunAir Aviation, is located five minutes from downtown Leesburg. The airport features a 5,000-foot lighted runway and has just completed Phase II of the General Aviation Ramp Project. This project allows for 62,000 additional square feet of parking for large aircraft. The airport is in the process of extending Runway 31 by 300 feet, providing a run-up area (for pilots to make one last check before take off) and an overrun safety area that will be 500 feet wide by 1,000 feet long. Orlando International Airport is the major commercial airport that serves Lake County. Orlando International is 45 miles from the county seat and houses 80 airlines, including international carriers.

Nearby Sanford has an Amtrak station for those arriving by train, including access by the AutoTrain.
