As the first municipal park in the state dedicated to the conservation and enjoyment of butterflies, the East Brunswick Butterfly Park is a can’t-miss attraction. The butterfly park features an 11-acre preserve and 1,000-foot-long cinder trail nestled with plants that naturally attract butterflies. A gorgeous 400-foot meadow trail and 1,000 feet of woodland trails are beautiful to behold. Adjacent to Great Oak Park, the butterfly park is home to a wide variety of species and is a great place to explore nature and learn about these beautiful creatures. The Star Ledger named the butterfly park as one the places in New Jersey everyone needs to visit.

Marking 80 years in 2018, the Middlesex County Fair takes place each August. The home arts show, food vendors, exhibits, 4-H events, craft demonstrations and a wide array of rides all await fairgoers. Be sure to enter the little ones for the opportunity to be the king, queen, prince and princess of the fair. Due to this milestone year, the fair is putting on an 80th Anniversary Challenge, where participants can enter items, such as vegetables, fruit, flowers, baked goods and quilts, for a chance at a prize.

Playhouse 22 at the East Brunswick Community Arts Center, has been entertaining audiences for 60 years now. During the 2018-2019 season, the theater will present “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Noises Off!,” “A Christmas Carol,” “Proof,” “Into the Woods” and “Man of La Mancha.” For youth interested in performing arts, Playhouse 22 offers Children’s Summer Theater Experience, a six-week program for 7 to 14 year olds. The program teaches kids how to perform on stage in front of a crowd, build a set, act and manage lights and sounds. At the end, children will have the opportunity to show off what they’ve learned.

Spanning approximately 150 acres, Heavenly Farms has baseball, football, soccer, lacrosse and softball spaces, as well as walking paths, ample parking and restrooms. Man’s best friend can also get in on the action at the dog park. Canines will enjoy water fountains, separate small and large dog areas and lights at night. Owners will appreciate access to waste bags and the safety of the fenced lot.
