Education in Graham, Texas

With three elementary schools, one junior high school, one high school and an alternative high school, Graham Independent School District (GISD) offers big-city academics in a small-town atmosphere. Graham ISD has long been recognized for outstanding academic achievement, strong community support for education and a relentless commitment to excellence in the classroom. GISD has been recognized by the Texas Education Agency for outstanding academic achievement including test scores, low dropout rates, high completion rates and high student attendance. Graham High School and Graham Junior High School have a storied tradition of excellence in athletics and academics including football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, track, golf, one-act plays, UIL Academic Competitions and ACT/SAT scores that are above the state and national averages. In tandem with the Graham Education and Workforce Center, Graham IDS offers the opportunity for students to graduate from Graham High School with up to 36 college credit hours toward their four-year or associate’s degree, vocational or technical certification. Graham ISD’s elementary schools are all rated Recognized by the State of Texas Accountability System and offer rigorous and varied curriculum to suit the needs of all learners.

Graham ISD has made a commitment to upgrading all educational facilities to foster an atmosphere of educational excellence. These upgrades include the passage of a $30 million bond for additions and renovations to Graham High School along with a $7 million bond to build a new elementary school and renovate Graham Junior High School. The District recently completed a $5 million renovation of an existing elementary and built a new maintenance and transportation facility. Library of Graham

The municipally owned Library of Graham is one of the largest and best-equipped libraries in the entire country for a community the size of Graham. The current 14,000-square-foot facility was completed in 1993 at a cost of $1,300,000. The library offers more than 50,000 titles for adults, children and young people.

Special programming for children is provided, especially in the summer months. A spacious meeting room, seating more than 70 persons and provided with projection and sound equipment, is used for various community programs and is available for use at a slight charge for organizations. The library is a member of the North Texas Regional Library System, and with this consortium can access over 12 million books through interlibrary loan.

The Library of Graham is located at 910 Cherry Street in Shawnee Park and can be reached at 940-549-0600 during business hours.
