Kernersville couldn’t have a better location for both business development and residential living. We have an extensive road network and are just minutes from Piedmont Triad International Airport. PTIA is located on a 4,000 acre campus that is served by six national carriers, connecting air travelers to major hubs across the country.
“The reality about transportation is that it’s future-oriented. If we’re planning for what we have, we’re behind the curve.” — Anthony Foxx,
17th U.S. Secretary of Transportation
Kernersville also benefits from PART commuter bus service with the Kernersville/Winston-Salem Express, the Kernersville/Greensboro Express not only transporting residents to employment in other parts of the Triad, but also bringing workers into Kernersville. PART also provides transportation to and from the local Kernersville Health Care Center that serves our veterans.
Public transportation is also critical to seniors who no longer drive. A Senior shuttle provides transportation from various senior housing centers to local shopping opportunities as well as medical facilities. In addition, the Shepherd’s Center secures volunteer drivers to transport seniors to appointments and shopping.
Kernersville benefits economically from the Norfolk and Southern rail line that comes through town, serving a number of industrial businesses. The initial rail line through town was the result of Kernersville residents rolling up their sleeves to lay track in the 1870s. Town population grew exponentially as soon as the town had access to rail transportation to support industry.
We have a great highway network but the best is to come. We take for granted that both Business 40 and Interstate 40 have multiple Kernersville exits. We also are conveniently located near I-77 and I-85, providing access to north/south interstate travel.
The many road projects that NCDOT has been committed to are coming to fruition. The widening at Union Cross has allowed new business and residential growth. Also the continued work on the section of Macy Grove Road, which serves the Kernersville Medical Center, VA Kernersville Health Care Center and the Triad Business Park. The improvements in downtown, as well as South Main Street, will continue to serve our community well for decades. w
