Public & Private Schools

Public & Private Schools in Carol Stream

From kindergarten to college, schools in and around Carol Stream offer a plethora of excellent education options. Families have the options of public schools, post-secondary schools, private schools and parochial schools.

Community Consolidated School District 93
School District 93 is an elementary school district serving 3,600 students in preschool through eighth grade from Carol Stream, Bloomingdale, and Hanover Park. The district consists of one preschool, six elementary schools and two middle schools. Its mission is to maximize the academic, social and emotional potential of each student.

Strategic plan to Prepare Elementary Students for the Future
CCSD93 is in the second year of its five-year 2018-23 strategic plan, which was developed with input from more than 1,700 community members, parents and staff members. As part of the planning process, the district developed four strategic goals, strategies for achieving the goals, key data measures for tracking the success of the goals and a strategy map for planning and tracking the progress of implementing the strategic plan.

Goal 1: A relevant education for all students
Empower all students with the education and skills necessary for their future to live healthy, rewarding lives as confident, successful individuals.

Goal 2: Engaged & connected employees
Recruit, develop and retain a high quality and diverse workforce who are committed to student success and connected to the district’s families as well as its mission and vision.

Goal 3: Operational excellence
Align resources to the strategic plan, budgeting effectively and appropriately. Put systems in place that will help to accelerate innovation so that staff will always be able to successfully provide students with an innovative and relevant education.

Goal 4: Optimal learning environments
Develop a long-range facilities plan to ensure student safety and security, 21st century learning environments, student achievement and energy efficiency. Maintain high expectations for facilities and technology so that students always have what they need to receive an innovative and relevant education.

Middle Schools transform to Meet Future Student Needs
Community Consolidated School District 93 has transformed Stratford Middle School and is in the process of transforming Jay Stream Middle School to provide exciting, innovative new learning spaces for sixth- through eighth-grade students by creating new STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) wings and innovation centers. Stratford Middle School introduced both new learning spaces at the start of the 2018-19 school year, while Jay Stream’s new innovation center will be ready for the beginning of the 2019-20 school year with plans for its STEM wing to be constructed and open for the following school year.

With career opportunities abounding in STEM fields, the district surveyed stakeholders in 2016, finding that 85% of parents and 75% of community members agreed CCSD93 should add a dedicated space in its middle schools for STEM learning. Committees of school staff, district administrators and the project’s architects have worked to create flexible spaces built with modern and future STEM concepts in mind, fitting the needs of any learning opportunities that students will be asked to take on.

The new STEM wings convert traditional science labs into flexible modern STEM labs and large group areas that better utilize space. Students are able to use the new spaces to work independently or collaboratively on projects that require them to design and build, interact with robotics and apply computer coding skills. Stratford’s unique, state-of-the-art facility was the first of its kind in DuPage County.

The innovation centers feature flexible and movable spaces and furniture designed to accommodate a wide range of projects. Updates include more natural lighting, inspiring colors, technology tools infused throughout and dedicated spaces for video production. Stratford’s innovation center even boasts a domed virtual reality room for students to explore a variety of aspects of the curriculum. Plans are underway for a similar space in Jay Stream’s STEM wing.

The projects offer unprecedented learning opportunities to students and help to meet CCSD93’s new strategic goals of providing a relevant education for all students and optimal learning environments.
