The Lebanon School District, under the leadership of School Administrative Union (SAU) 88, serves the children of Lebanon, West Lebanon, Grantham (7-12 only) and Plainfield (9-12 only). The District is comprised of two elementary schools, Mount Lebanon School and Hanover Street School (grades K-4) and Lebanon High School (grades 9-12), and recently built a new middle school which marks the consolidation of both Seminary Hill School and Lebanon Junior High School. The new Lebanon Middle School welcomed students in grades 5 through 8 in the fall of 2012.
Student performance is measured in a variety of ways: the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) at grades 3 through 8 and grade 11; the Northwest Evaluation Association – Measure of Academic Progress (NWEA-MAP); SATs (Scholastic Aptitude Test) and AP (Advanced Placement) tests for college-bound high school students; and on-going district-wide assessment measuring a variety of outcomes at various grade levels. While Lebanon students generally score at or above state and national averages on standardized assessments, increasing achievement is a constant goal of SAU 88.
The total budget for Lebanon School District is approximately $32.5 million. The state and federal government contribute approximately 29 percent, while the Lebanon residents contribute 71 percent of the resources. Lebanon’s per pupil expenditure is $16,248, and the average teacher’s salary is $62,081. The District employs over 130 classroom teachers and the student-to-classroom teacher ratio is one teacher for every 15.7 students.
Lebanon High School is a comprehensive high school offering a strong college preparatory program and a variety of vocational programs. Of the high school graduating class of 2010, 67 percent went on to further their studies. Home schooling is common in the Upper Valley, and schools work in concert with families of home-schooled children to include them in sports and other extra-curricular activities.

Private schooling is also an option, with The Ledyard Charter School (Lebanon- grades 9-12), The Estabrook School (Lebanon – grades 1-6), Cardigan Mountain School (Canaan), Crossroads Academy (Lyme) and Kimball Union Academy (Meriden) among the choices.
The Lebanon area also provides several higher education options. Granite State College, River Valley Community College, and Franklin Pierce University are each located right in Lebanon and meet a wide range of student needs, with financial aid programs, flexible class schedules and associate through doctoral degrees. Other nearby schools include Dartmouth College, The New England School of Hair Design and Granite Air Center’s flight school. Uniquely the Upper Valley Educators Institute offers a 15 month program to undergrads to prepare them for a teaching certificate in the State of New Hampshire.
