A variety of activities and services for older adults age 50 and up are available through the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District’s (LARPD) Senior Services Center.

Celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2017, the park district began providing senior services in 1969. The Senior Services Center now operates as part of the Robert Livermore Community Center on East Avenue. The center serves about 2,500 people per month, including caregivers and families of seniors.

Active older adults can join fun fitness classes such as yoga, easy aerobics, tai chi and Zumba. There are also programs providing information on health, nutrition, safe driving, memory training, writing, art and more. Additional helpful services include legal assistance, hearing aid and eyeglass cleaning, health insurance counseling, tax preparation assistance and health screening.

Good nutrition and fun are essential for a healthy life, and the senior center provides a weekday lunch program, a lending library, movie days, billiards, bingo, card games, mahjong, craft group and holiday luncheons. Senior trips are also a fun way for older adults to get to know each other while experiencing new places and fascinating sites. Day excursions are available as well as extended travel trips.

Providing senior services to the community is a high priority for LARPD; it strives to continue and expand the emphasis on well-balanced fitness programs, intergenerational programming to bring age groups together and transportation services, as well as information and referrals and a wide range of recreation activities year-round.
