Residential Living

Geneva is a place where old meets new – a trait that is evident in its residential living options. Impressive century-old Victorian manors line the streets of historic downtown Geneva, offering a glimpse into the community’s rich past. A wide assortment of home styles can be found along the banks of the Fox River and throughout the downtown area. Large estates, post-war bungalows, remodeled farmhouses and 1950s-era ranch dwellings, as well as modern homes, condominiums and townhouse complexes, combine to make Geneva’s landscape an eclectic mix of design elements.

High-quality living, overlooking the greens, in Eagle Brook and Mill Creek, has made these neighborhoods top choices for families, retirees and golf enthusiasts. New neighborhoods like Cooper Woods from Havlicek Builders and Riverbank Crossing by Taylor Morrison, both in the heart of charming Geneva, are excellent options. Looking to lease? Settle into the private, quiet community of Ashford at Geneva apartment homes.

Those who are looking for senior living or assisted care facilities will find an array of choices in Geneva and in the neighboring communities of Batavia and St. Charles. These facilities provide a full continuum of care to residents – from independent living and assisted living to skilled nursing, hospice and Alzheimer’s care. Arden Courts Memory Care Community, Bria Health Services of Geneva, Geneva Place – A Covenant Retirement Community, GreenFields of Geneva, The Holmstad, The Reserve of Geneva and Wedgewood Manor are among the exceptional senior living communities located within the region. Geneva Township Senior Center also offers services to the senior population.

Whether it is the radiating hometown spirit, successful business district, exceptional schools, outstanding cultural and recreational opportunities or the countless other elements that compose this charming town; people are continually looking to Geneva as an attractive community in which to live.

Arts and Entertainment

The City of Geneva and its neighboring communities are home to an abundance of top-notch cultural venues and activities, including events throughout the year.

Downtown art galleries and the active Cultural Arts Commission combine their forces to make Geneva and the greater Fox Valley area a worthy destination for those who enjoy the visual and performing arts. Geneva’s hometown theater, Playhouse 38, showcases talent in an intimate arena.

The 79-seat Steel Beam Theatre, located in St. Charles, has musicals, plays, improvisational comedy and children’s theater.

Pheasant Run Resort offers a 320-seat amphitheater setting the stage for an amazing night of entertainment, music, and fun. In addition, the resort is home to Zanies Comedy Club.  The Hemmens Cultural Center in Elgin provides the western Chicago suburbs with a stellar line-up of entertainers each season. The center features a 1,200-seat theater that hosts the Elgin Symphony Orchestra and has attracted a number of big name performers throughout the years.

Education

Geneva Community Unit School District 304 continues to build on its “Tradition of Excellence” to prepare its nearly 6,000 students for success in a constantly changing and increasingly globalized world. Collaboration among its 10 schools – one preschool, one high school, two middle schools and six neighborhood elementary schools – helps students reach the district’s vision of developing self-directed, lifelong learners; effective communicators; complex, creative and adaptive thinkers; and collaborative and productive citizens. In Geneva 304, staff and students are empowered to challenge themselves, try new things, and learn and grow from their failures.

Geneva School District’s test scores continually outpace state averages and its success is directly reflected in the accomplishments and awards achieved each year by students and faculty. Caring commitment and support for each student’s academic and social-emotional needs are a major part of Geneva 304.

In 2017, Geneva School District was ranked among the top school districts in Illinois by Niche, and placed in the top 3 percent of districts in the country. In addition to its academic success, Geneva 304 students continuously excel in athletics, music, theater and a host of other extracurricular activities. In 2012, Geneva was recognized by Bloomberg’s Businessweek as “The Best Place to Raise Kids in Illinois” in large part due to public school performance.

Alternatives to public education are readily available for Geneva students. St. Peter Elementary School (pre-K-8), Elgin Academy (preschool-12), Geneva Christian School (preschool-5) and Mansio Montessori of Geneva are among the private or parochial schools that serve the area. The community of Geneva is also well served by a number of excellent day care and early childhood education centers.

Graduating seniors and adults looking to continue their education are afforded several options within a 30-mile range of Geneva. Nearby Sugar Grove is home to the main campus of Waubonsee Community College, which offers students a wide selection of two-year transfer and career education degree programs, along with numerous one-semester certificate programs. The college also provides adult education and community education programs, plus a range of workforce development offerings. Further higher learning opportunities are available at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, the Northern Illinois University campus in DeKalb and the private, liberal arts institutions of Wheaton College, North Central College in Naperville, Aurora University, Judson University in Elgin and Benedictine University in Lisle.

Geneva Public Library District invites the community to take advantage of the programs, resources, and services their library card provides. The library district serves more than 30,500 residents of Geneva and the surrounding area. Supplementing the library’s robust collection of books, CDs, DVDs and digital material (eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMusic, etc.) is an assortment of exceptional programs for adults, children, and teens offered throughout the year.

The library also provides book club service, from ordering books to supplying discussion kits; personal reading lists for all ages; laptops, tablets and digitization equipment for use in the library or at home, and much more. The library’s online catalog offers homework help for kids of all ages, as well as hundreds of other resources for research, lifelong learning, job finding and more. Learn more by visiting the library’s website at www.gpld.org.

Health Care

Geneva residents are fortunate to have Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital, Fox Valley Orthopedics and additional specialized health care options close by.

Delnor Hospital is a 159-bed acute-care facility in Geneva, with a medical staff that includes nearly 600 physicians in 60 specialties providing comprehensive medical care. Delnor Hospital was the first hospital in Illinois to receive Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the nation’s highest recognition for patient care and nursing excellence. The hospital is home to a state-of-the-art cancer center, and its Breast Health Center was first to be recognized by the prestigious National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers through the American College of Surgeons.

For 46 years, Fox Valley Orthopedics has been committed to the community. Its orthopedic surgeons volunteer as the team doctor for seven local high schools and are the official team physicians for the Kane County Cougars. A staff of 12 orthopedic surgeons treat the full range of orthopedic conditions, including minimally invasive total joint surgery, minimally invasive arthroscopy, three-piece total ankle replacement, platelet rich plasma therapy and cartilage restoration. To learn more, visit Fvortho.com or call (630) 584‑1400

Supplementing the aforementioned are specialized resources such as the LivingWell Cancer Resource Center, part of Northwestern Medicine and Fox Valley Hands of Hope, as well as a broad selection of skilled health care professionals with established practices in the area, including family medicine, orthopedic, dental, ophthalmology, chiropractic, audiology, podiatry and counseling services.

Business

Geneva’s business climate remains healthy. The community is anchored by a thriving downtown business district and augmented by the Geneva Commons lifestyle shopping center and the Geneva Business Park. More than 1,000 businesses have established operations here with leading employers including Burgess Norton (one of the area’s oldest manufacturing companies), Northwestern Medicine – Central DuPage Hospital & Delnor Hospital, Continental Envelope, FONA International, Fermilab, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Greencore USA, Miner Enterprises, Gordon Flesch Company and Riverbank Laboratories, Inc.

The pro-business attitude emanating throughout Geneva is facilitated by the city’s Economic Development Department. This city department is responsible for attracting new commercial, office/research and light industrial developments to Geneva, while retaining and building the existing businesses that call the community home. The department strives to ensure the city’s high standard of living remains intact in the face of new development through the establishment of several successful business-focused programs including: the East Side Tax Increment Financing District, the downtown Façade Improvement/Historic Preservation Matching Grant and assistance with collaborative marketing efforts among Geneva businesses.

The Geneva Chamber of Commerce is also a major resource for local businesses and the community as a whole. This nonprofit organization is composed of large and small businesses, industry professionals and individuals dedicated to sound community and economic development. The Chamber presents its membership with a host of unmatched resources and opportunities for business promotion, networking and development. The Chamber also serves as the local convention and tourism bureau, drawing in thousands of visitors to Geneva annually.
