Anson County Schools
Anson County Schools serve students by providing a high-quality public education for all children. Students have the option of attending elementary school in their home community. Elementary Schools (grades K-5) include Ansonville, Lilesville, Morven, Peachland-Polkton, Wadesboro Elementary and Wadesboro Primary. Students in grades 6-8 attend Anson Middle School in Wadesboro. Upon entering 9th grade, students apply to attend one of our high schools. They may apply to attend Anson High School in Wadesboro selecting from a number of career pathways or Anson County Early College High School at South Piedmont Community College in Polkton.
Rigorous curriculum offerings are provided at each grade level allowing students to experience continuous learning as they progress through the grades. Many students earn academic credits allowing them to graduate with a high school diploma along with associate degrees and/or workforce credentials establishing a foundation for students to attend college or enter the workforce. Each school in Anson County has earned passing performance grades based on the North Carolina Public Schools Accountability System. Additionally, a significant number of advances in student academic growth is documented within the accountability system. Anson County Schools have many alumni who are productive citizens experiencing success in their chosen career pathway. Alumni represent ACS across the world making us proud due to their phenomenal contributions to society.
ACS have received National Commendations for a number of innovative programs within our schools such as the Anson County Schools’ Science Center and Wadesboro Rotary Planetarium featuring a state-of-the art dome with a Starlab Digital Planetarium System, spectacular science learning activities, massive scientific collections and animals utilized for hands on instruction. Students of all ages benefit from this exemplary resource. Science, technology, engineering and math-focused classes are an integral part of the educational programs being provided at both middle and high school levels. Anson High School features a nationally recognized Youth Career STEM Academy while Anson Early College High School has earned many accolades for being a leader among highly successful early colleges in North Carolina. Both schools have produced alumni who are making the world a better place as a result of their contributions within the professional and workforce arenas.
In addition, ACS students are supported to ensure that a climate for positive social and emotional development is the norm. Character development is aligned with each student activity. Student athletes have a wide range of Bearcat athletic teams sporting navy blue and orange to participate in. ACS qualifies for the Community Eligibility Food Program providing all students nutritional and tasty meals at no charge to their parents. The ACS Transportation System provides safe and efficient transportation to students on climate controlled buses. The modern fleet of ACS activity buses along with contracted charter buses support students as they travel to athletic events and well-planned instructional field trips in North Carolina and other states.
