Austin County is home of San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site, the location where Stephen F. Austin established his colony in 1823. The establishment of San Felipe was a pivotal part of Texas’ history and once the social, economic and political center, in addition to being the first capital of the interim government of Texas.
The visitor’s guide is a useful resource for the numerous attractions, events, churches and accommodations located
