Where is Fresno: Transportation
Fresno County is located in the heart of California. With two major railroads, extensive freeways, an international airport and several smaller airparks, the greater-Fresno area is the transportation hub for Central California.
State Route 99 offers an easy drive to Los Angeles (south) and San Francisco (north), while state routes 41, 145, 180 and 168 provide easy access to the three national parks (Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia) and national forests in the area.
BY ROAD: Fresno Area Express is a fast and efficient bus transit system (with a fleet of more than 100 vehicles) that offers 16 fixed-route lines providing service to schools, shopping centers, government offices, hospitals and other destinations.
Greyhound provides a daily service from Fresno to locations throughout the state and nation.
Transports Inter-California provides services through its depot in downtown Fresno to other locations in California and to Mexico.
YARTS (Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System) is public transit in the Yosemite region, with buses entering Yosemite Valley from Merced, Mammoth Lakes, Sonora, and Fresno – as well as many different towns along the way. YARTS began service in May 2000, and now provides an alternative to driving to nearly 100,000 riders per year.
BY RAIL: Rail travel is also a convenient option from the new Fresno Amtrak Station, which operates 12 trains daily out of its downtown station. The Burlington Northern/Santa Fe, the Union Pacific and San Joaquin Valley Railroad all provide rail service to the valley.
BY AIR: Located in the heart of California, Fresno Yosemite International Airport is the largest commercial airport serving the Central California region.
