The Metuchen area truly shines when it comes to its arts and entertainment offerings. Not only is it a cultural hub itself, but is also conveniently located to regional hot spots. Broadway, Madison Square Garden, the Prudential Center, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, and other attractions are all just a short train ride away. Theaters in Newark and New Brunswick are only minutes away, and Middlesex County’s acclaimed Plays in the Park summer series are literally within walking distance.
Metuchen itself offers a multitude of family-friendly annual events such as the Spring Street Fair, the Metuchen Country Fall Fair, Annual Town Wide Garage Sale, Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony, Winter Festival with Menorah and Christmas Tree Lightings, Classic Car Shows, Easter Egg Hunts, and Halloween Pumpkin Carving. The borough’s vibrant and active Arts Council leads each year with a variety of new and ever-evolving arts-oriented programs, and on any given weekend one can find live music, visual arts receptions, and demonstrations, as well as dance and theater performances here.
Metuchen organizations strive to provide a growing creative atmosphere, with a number of businesses and nonprofits working together to support the arts. A number of permanent art galleries are located throughout the borough, finding homes based in diverse partnerships. Thriving here are a community chorus group composed of seasoned professional and novice singers of all ages, religions, and ethnicities; an arts and music school; a contemporary dance company; and a multicultural theater group.
Recently announced is the county-funded planned renovation of Main Street’s historic Forum Theatre, positioning it to be the centerpiece of the area’s arts scene.
